‘Give serious attention to female education’

The Headmistress of  Amanianpong Senior High School in Asante Mampong, Mrs Margaret Afarewaa Appiah, has urged parents, especially mothers, to pay attention to their daughters’ education to enable them to focus on their future.

She said they should closely observe and monitor their adolescent girls and try to provide them with their basic needs, instead of spending frivolously on clothing for funerals and social functions.

Addressing the 90th anniversary celebration of the Wiamoase congregation of the  Presbyterian Church of Ghana in the Ashanti Region, on the topic:” The anointing of the Holy Spirit, parenting and girl child education”, she bemoaned the fact that some brilliant girls dropped out of school after junior high school.

She attributed this to lack of parental care, financial difficulties and early pregnancies and added that parents needed to be strict and responsible to check their daughters’ bad behaviours.

Gifts from God

The District Minister in charge of the Riis Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Wiamoase, Rev. Abronoma Nyarko-Anti, said children were gifts from God as such parents must strive hard to take good care of them.

“Remember that there are many social vices confronting the youth and parents must be vigilant to lift their children from the cesspool of evil and immorality. We must handle our children with care because we shall one day account for how we handled them before our creator the almighty God,” Rev Nyarko-Anti stated.

Present were Mrs Philomena Brobbey,  the Headmistress of Okomfo Anokye Senior High School, and Mrs Nana Osei,  the Headmistress of Agona SDA Senior High School.
