Give Prez another term to sustain peace – Veep tells Dagbon

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has urged the people of Dagbon to show gratitude to the President for his immense contribution towards bringing lasting peace to the kingdom by voting massively for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to retain power in the 2020 general election.

" Now the Abudu and Andani issue is history. Dagbon owes President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo a debt of gratitude because he has done a lot for the people of Dagbon. This debt of gratitude should be paid in 2020 when he is seeking re-election," he said .

"He gave us peace after 40 years of turmoil. The least we can do is to give him four more years as payment and thankfulness for bringing peace to Dagbon,” he added.

Annual Qur'anic commentary

Dr Bawumia made the call when he addressed a gathering of Muslims and traditional leaders to mark the 23rd Annual Quranic Commentary Ceremony of the Bambawiya Islamic Institute in Tamale last Saturday.

The ceremony, organised by the Bamawiya Islamic Institute led by Sheikh Luqman Bamba, was geared towards the advocacy of Islam and its teachings as in the Holy Qur'an.

This year’s ceremony was attended by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, Sheikh Osman Bouchi from Nigeria, prominent Imams and chiefs across the country, and government appointees among others.

Government's commitment

In his address, the Vice-President said the government was on a drive to fulfilling all its promises to bring massive development to the people of the country.

He enumerated the numerous interventions which the government was implementing to improve the lives of the citizenry, including the provisions of ambulances to all the 275 constituencies across the country which, according to him had started arriving in Ghana.

"The one constituency, one ambulance promise will be fulfilled by December 2019, every constituency will get its share of the ambulance,” he assured.

Dr Bawumia, therefore, admonished all and sundry to take advantage of the numerous interventions being rolled out by the government to develop themselves and improve their living standards.

Unity and peace

In his welcome address, a representative of the institute, Dr Majeed Haroun, said the ceremony was aimed at fostering peace and unity in Dagbon and Ghana as a whole.

He expressed appreciation to the government for ensuring peace in Dagbon, which has led the kingdom to regain its lost glory.

Sheik Sharubutu for his part prayed for peace and stability in the country and charged Muslims to have faith in Allah and continue to seek favours from him.

He asked Ghanaians to see themselves as one people with a common destiny and "do away with deeds that will plunge the nation into chaos".
