It would be launched on September 9, 2015.

The move is in consonance with GIMPA’s role in providing research, training and capacity development in collaboration with its key partners in the health sector which has increased tremendously over the past decade.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Directorate of GIMPA, stated that CHESPOR aimed at contributing to expanding the knowledge and skills for research and training in the emerging field of Health Policy and System Research (HPSR) through its academic and capacity development activities, advocacy, policy and community engagements in the broader areas of public health and public policy.

“Among others, CHESPOR will be an intellectual hub to support the West Africa region in strengthening HPSR and working across disciplinary boundaries”.

It will also support capacity development in HPSR and related field for practitioners, health managers and leaders, policy makers, researchers and policy advocates to be reflective, think creatively and synthesise knowledge with practice”, it added.

“They will also create spaces to facilitate analytical engagement between research and practice; community and practitioners; community and policy makers; and among researchers themselves, while fostering local and international collaborations as well as lead the sharing and dissemination of ideas across projects, institutions and countries”, the statement stressed.

By its establishment, GIMPA is now able to rationalise its disparate health programmes with the ultimate aim of establishing a school of health sciences.
