Police hunt for killers of taxi driver

The police in Ashanti Region are searching for the suspected killers of one Stephen Amankwah Okyere, a taxi driver and resident of Mampong.

The body of Okyere, who went missing since January 7, this year, was found on January 15, 2019 at Ninting without the tongue and genitals.

The police suspect that he might have been killed for ritual purposes.

Briefing the media yesterday,  the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Godwin Ahianyo, said the lifeless body of Okyere was found in a cocoa farm in Ninting close to Mampong in a near decomposed state.

An autopsy conducted revealed that he died through strangulation and body mutilation, he said.

ASP Ahianyo said the police were on the manhunt for the perpetrators and the cab with registration number AC1205-17 which Okyere was driving at the time he went missing.

According to him, the wife of the deceased on January 7, 2018 reported that her husband who was a taxi driver, left home since morning and had not returned.

ASP Ahianyo said since then the police had been on the lookout for Okyere till they had a call yesterday that the body had been found in a cocoa farm at Ninting.
