Ghanaian rape suspect Amfo, absconds from US trial

Frederick Amfo, said to be 30 years and an illegal immigrant while in the US as an Uber driver, is being accused of absconding from the law after claiming innocent of sexual assault charges leveled against him by a passenger.

Amfo’s accuser, Emily Murray who insists her face be shown against media ethics not to identify sexual assault vicitims, says she is angry and confused that her “coward” attacker could simply post a bail of $10,000 and hop onto a flight and head home without defending his actions of April 8.

Murray claims on April 8 she was trying to get home when Amfo allegedly locked the doors to his vehicle in Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts and sexually assaulted her in the backseat, reports Foxnews.com, which also quotes police as saying that DNA collected from Amfo’s car led to his arrest days later.

Media accounts of the legal processes say Amfo as part of his committal, was ordered to submit his passport but failed and exploited security failings to abscond.

“Amfo was charged with sexual assault. On Friday, a Quincy District Court set bail at $10,000 and he was given a stay away order,” said the Foxnews.com account.

"On Friday afternoon, Amfo made bail, but he didn't surrender that passport and Monday afternoon, Emily was told her alleged rapist fled to his native Ghana," said Boston 25

“If I went to Ghana and I committed a crime, I wouldn’t expect to be able to hop on plane and say sorry about that, here’s some money,” Murray said Tuesday. “I would expect to answer for it. Accountability. And there had been just zero.”
