Ghana's COVID-19 cases now 1,154 with 120 recoveries

The confirmed COVID-19 (Coronavirus) case count in Ghana has increased to 1,154.

The country has also recorded 120 recoveries. This was announced by the Ghana Health Service at a press briefing on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in Accra.

The new tally means that 112 new cases have been confirmed with 21 more people recovering since Sunday, April 19, when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo updated the figures.

According to the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, 401 positive cases were recorded under the general surveillance and 115 from travellers who were quarantined and tested.

He added that 638 persons recorded positive through enhanced contact tracing bringing the number to a total of 1,154 as at Wednesday, April 22, 2020.

Touching on the number of recoveries, Dr Kuma-Aboagye explained that Ga East Hospital has recorded 82 recovery cases while the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has recorded 17 recoveries with the Ridge hospital having 3 recoveries.

He said four people are currently in critical condition with only one breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.
