Ziope builds ICT centre, mechanised borehole through self-help

The people of Ziope in the Agotime-Ziope District in the Volta Region have built an ITC centre which has 40 desk-top computers and a 24-hour internet connection for the Ziope D.A. JHS at a cost of GH¢470,000.

They have also constructed a mechanised borehole at a cost of GH¢350,000 in the community.

The two facilities were commissioned last Saturday at Ziope amid pomp and celebration.

This coincided with the launch of the Ziope Ngoryiza (development festival) which is slated for May, next year.

The Dufia of Ziope, Togbi Ahiagba Kpordoave IV, said the realisation of the ICT centre and borehole, was testimony to what the people of Ziope could do on their own without looking up to the government for support all the time.

“We achieved them through the strong bond of unity and resilience among the people,” he added.

The Dufia said, by the same community spirit, the people of Ziope built a two-unit nurses’ quarters last year.

He announced plans by the community to expand the local clinic in due course, adding that with unity and purpose Ziope would attain astonishing development heights.

Togbi Kpordoave, therefore, urged the people of Ziope to contribute funds and materials voluntarily in aid of that project.

Self-help spirit

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Agotime-Ziope, Charles Agbeve, commended the people for their unmatched self-help spirit, saying that would definitely attract the government’s support for other development projects in the area.

He said the ICT centre and borehole projects successfully undertaken by the people of Ziope also bore ample testimony to their strong sense of patriotism.

“Let us use it to achieve sterling BECE results in Agotime- Ziope which came first last year,” he said.

The Chief Inspector of Schools in the district, Rev. Michael Avorga, said the ICT centre was a worthy facility to advance the cause of education in the area.

The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, who was the special guest, said Ziope was on the path of rapid development.

For that matter, he cautioned the people to avoid every divisive tendency which might set them apart and push their development plans off-course.

Mr Agbavitor said an ITC centre was not a luxury but a necessity, maintaining that every child living everywhere deserved access to the internet.

The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of SAKS Engineering Ltd, Selase Kwaku Seade, who chaired the event, said the ICT centre and borehole were foundations for a strong and prosperous community.

He entreated the people of Ziope to take ownership of the facilities and take utmost care of them so that they could benefit generations yet unborn.
