Kennedy Agyapong will be prosecuted under NDC- Sammy Gyamfi

The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has served notice that the party will ensure the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong is prosecuted for his threat against the now deceased investigative journalist, Ahmed Hussein-Suale.

He said unlike the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that sees Mr Agyapong as a god, the NDC is not afraid of the lawmaker, hence they will make sure the laws of the land deal with Mr Agyapong, because issuing threats is outlawed in the country.

He stressed that it doesn’t matter how long it takes for the NDC to come into power, the lawmaker will be brought to book. “In relation to Kennedy Agyapong, with regard to threat of harm, with regard to threat of death, he must be prosecuted. When we come to power..., I know we will be in power 2021, we will make sure at least for the threat of harm, He (Agyapong) will pay for it).

Speaking on Accra- based Asampa FM, Mr Gyamfi said the MP is a prime suspect in the death of the late journalist, hence he must be investigated.

He added that on the basis of the threat of harm, the MP is a candidate for jail even if Ahmed was not killed.

The lead investigative journalist with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI was assassinated on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at Madina in the Greater Accra region.

He was shot three times, twice in the chest and in the neck.

The NDC Communications Officer also blamed President Akufo-Addo’s government for the death of the journalist.

He explained that although the last investigative piece by the late journalist was not against Mr Agyapong, the lawmaker disclosed the identity of Hussein-Suale because the MP claimed to protect the interest of the president.

He said President Nana Addo did not bring the lawmaker to book, but rather was quiet on the issue. “He did it in defense of the president. Our president was in this country while all this was taking place. People condemned it but not even one statement from the president or the presidency to condemn all the threat”.

"So why did we look on unconcerned while Kennedy Agyapong threatened Ahmed with harm and even death, without the government doing anything about it", he quizzed.
