A group of valiant and development-focused women at Taviefe in the Ho Municipality, known as the Ohio Ladies Association, has embarked on a mission to construct a doctor’s residence and a two-storey nurses’ quarters in the town.
As part of efforts towards the project, the association raised GH¢70,000 at a fundraising appeal in Ho last Saturday.
The amount was realised at the official launch of the association, which coincided with the inauguration of another development group from Taviefe (Ohio) Youth Movement.
The appeal for funds also realised 60 bags of cement for the project.
Taviefe is often referred to as Ohio City by many people in the Volta Region.
The joint event was on the theme: Promoting Unity, Empowering Women, Youth and Supporting Community Development.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ho Central, Edem Kofi Kpotosu, lauded the women for taking the bold initiative to lift Taviefe to greater development heights.
He urged them to remain united and steadfast and carry out their vision without any political colours.
The MP entreated members of the Ohio Ladies Association to also operate as a cooperative group to enable them to attract more support from various corporate bodies and patriotic individuals.
“You are truly mothers with a vision to create hope for Taviefe,” he told the women.
A leading member of the association, Lucy Yaotse, gave an assurance that one of the group’s principal objectives was to foster a strong bond of unity among the people of Taviefe through development.
She said the town had a clinic, but decent accommodation was needed to retain health workers and ensure they remained at their duty posts.
Miss Yaotse announced plans by the association to foster friendship, not only among the members, but also with other development-oriented groups from far and near to promote its development agenda.
She pledged the association would continue its fundraising activities to ensure the project was started and completed in good time.

The Afetor Nyornufia of Taviefe-Tsetse, Mama Afua Kobri Kotoku I, who graced the launch, said the group was also very concerned about education at Taviefe and would work round the clock to secure structures for the progress of that sector as well.
“That means we must all remain united and avoid all divisive tendencies,” she said.
