NMEP acknowledges Daily Graphic support towards malaria elimination
The National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) has commended the Daily Graphic for its continuous support of the programme over the years.
According to the NMEP, the Daily Graphic has, over the years, supported the programme's drive towards malaria elimination in the country, especially during World Malaria Day celebrations, among others.
Officials
Represented by Eunice Mintah- Agyemang, a Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) Specialist; Ivy Samoa Forson, Principal Administrator, and Delphine Dede Agbaglo, Private Sector Focal person, they presented a certificate of recognition to the Editor Graphic, Theophilus Yartey, during the visit.
Mrs Mintah-Agyemang, in a brief acknowledgement, said the NMEP deemed it fit to visit the Daily Graphic to commend the organisation for its continued support over the years.
She said the programme was currently working to achieve malaria elimination in 21 districts of the Greater Accra Region, while it has also stratified other areas across the country that have been targeted for elimination over the years.
She explained that the programme targeted the 21 districts in the Greater Accra Region because they had low malaria prevalence and, therefore, achieving malaria elimination over a short period was possible.
Elimination
Going forward, she said the NMEP would work on elimination across the country based on the prevalence of the parasite in a district or area, using combined programmes such as bed net distribution, larviciding among others.
This, she said, was believed to be a sure way of getting rid of malaria from the country.
The Editor Graphic, Mr Yartey, thanked the NMEP for its acknowledgement of the paper's contribution to the malaria elimination programme over the years.
He said as a public service news organisation, that was the least it could do to help educate and inform people on the dangers of malaria and how to keep themselves free of the parasite.
