A grotto was last Sunday, dedicated at the Holy Cross/Assumption Parish in Agorkpo, Sogakope, in the Keta-Akatsi Region.
It was funded by Worthy Brother John K. M Zigah, immediate past Assistant Supreme Secretary of Finance and a member of Council 71, Dansoman of the Knights of Marshall.
The Catholic Bishop of the Keta Akatsi Diocese, Most Rev. Gabriel Edoe Kumordji, SVD, blessed the grotto and unveiled a plaque at the holy ground to the glory of God.
Most Rev. Kumordji said the dedication of the grotto was timely as it coincided with All Saints Day.
"Mary is the Mother of all Saints. So it is significant that we are dedicating a grotto on All Saints Day," he stressed.
Bishop Kumordji commended Worthy Bro. Zigah and his family for building the grotto at the church and expressed the hope that the congregation would use the place for prayers.
He implored people in authority to consider leadership as an opportunity to serve rather than lord it over others and amass wealth.
Worthy Bro. Zigah said he had the vision to build the grotto 34 years ago when he visited the St. Mary's Sanctuary Grotto, Buoho, in the Ashanti Region.
"As a young boy in 1992, I followed my late mother to a Friday midnight vigil. In that sacred calm, I made a silent vow to honour Mother Mary for her intercession. I did not know how then," he stated.
He said he poured out his needs before God, who answered him.
"Today I stand like Hannah saying, 'I am the same small boy who prayed to the Lord, and the Lord has answered me.'
This Grotto is my sacrifice of praise, " he emphasised.
Worthy Bro. Zigah expressed gratitude to his wife, Sis. Veronica Zigah, Noble Lady of Court 63, Dansoman, and his children, the clergy and all those who contributed to ensure the successful execution of the project.
"My Lord Bishop Kumordji, SVD, I am extremely grateful to you for your episcopal blessing, fatherly support and presence in consecrating this holy ground," he added.
The Parish presented a citation to Worthy Bro. Zigah during Mass for building a grotto for the church.
Past Supreme Knights, Sir Knight Bro. Sir Charles Cobb and Sir Knight Bro. Richard Ayih-Akakpo witnessed the event.
In attendance were Brothers and Sisters from Council 71 and Court 63, Dansoman, and members of the Keta-Akatsi Regional Council and Court.
