The Member of Parliament for Kpando, Sebastian Deh, and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Killian Donkor have both pledged to commit great zeal and resources towards improving accessibility to all public places for Persons with Disability (PWDs).
That, they said, is to facilitates the assembly’s all-inclusive development agenda and guarantee a more fruitful economic support for PWDs.
They gave the assurance at the presentation of livelihood support items to 87 PWDs in Kpando on Monday (August 31).
The items, worth about GHC42,000 included sewing machines, deep freezers, refrigerators, fufu pounders, barbering machines, wheelchairs and various cash amounts.
“We will leave no one behind in our journey of progress,” said the MCE.
Unlike in the past, he said, the municipal assembly office complex was disability friendly, while the various ongoing infrastructural development projects in the municipality, including CHPS Compounds, school blocks, and markets had disability friendly components attached to them.
Mr Donkor said the District Assembly Common Fund for those projects took into consideration the needs of PWDs.
The MCE said there now 654 registered PWDs in the municipality, and gave an assurance the assembly would not toy with their welfare for any reason.
Mr Donkor maintained the recent increase in the District Assemblies Common Fund for PWDs from three percent to five percent demonstrated the government’s renewed dedication to the welfare of PWDs.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously to improve their living conditions.

In his contribution, Mr Deh said the items presented to the PWDs were not a charity but their right.
“The tools and items we are distributing to you are to empower you economically and support your businesses and livelihood, and to enable you to be self-reliant, productive, and respected in your communities,” MP added.
The Deh said PWDs were an integral part of the society, for which reason their welfare was very important.
“Every person with disability has the right to live with dignity, to participate fully in our society, and to be protected against any form of exploitation or discrimination,” the MP reiterated.
Mr Deh explained that also guaranteed their right to work, be employed and live an independent life.
