A 44-year-old Reverend Minister of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Rev. Richard Tagoe, has been enstooled Amanonehene of Abotakyi in the Akuapem Traditional Area in the Eastern Region.
Amanonehene is a specialised chieftaincy title responsible for the welfare of indigenes of the town residing in the diaspora.
He also solicits support from the diaspora for the town's development.
Richard Tagoe, also a businessman whose stool name is Nana Ohene Tagoe I, currently lives in Belgium.
After going through the traditional rites, Nana Ohene Tagoe was carried shoulder-high and paraded through the principal streets of the Abotakyi township amidst cheers from the town folks, drumming and dancing.
Oath of Allegiance
Earlier at the Abotakyi chief's palace today (October 12), where the Amanonehene swore the oath of allegiance to the chief, Nana Kwame Sakyi Ababio II, sub-chiefs and elders of the town said the traditional council decided to introduce the Amanonehene (Ambassador) title to strengthen the town's relationship with its indigenes and organisations outside the country.
Track record
He said Nana Ohene Tagoe was selected because of his previous track record of support to the town and also his willingness to mobilise funds from the diaspora to promote development in the town.
"We decided to introduce such a title in the traditional area to help us mobilise the needed funds from the diaspora", the Abotakyi chief stated.
He told the gathering that Nana Ohene Tagoe was introduced to him by an individual who knew of his generosity and good works.
"I believe that as a reverend minister, you will be truthful in all your undertakings when soliciting for financial support from the diaspora for the development of the town", the Abotakyihene stated.
Investors
Nana Ohene Tagoe I, later in an interview with the Daily Graphic, pledged to use his position to promote massive infrastructural development and at the same time attract more investors into the town.
He assured the chiefs and the people of the town of his readiness to serve with humility and dignity to advance the development of the town and improve the living conditions of the people.
"I accept to be Amanonehene to bring in investors, business-minded people who will develop the town.
I will help get the youth employed and reduce the unemployment and teenage pregnancy rate in town", Nana Ohene Tagoe told the gathering.
