ICAG inducts new president, council members into office
The Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) has inducted into office a new president and an 11-member council to steer the affairs of the institute for the next two years.
The new President, Professor Williams Abayaawien Atuilik, who is also a member of the council, takes over from Professor Kwame Adom-Frimpong as the 29th president of the institute.

He was sworn into office together with his Vice-President, Mrs. Sena Dake Anapey, and the other members of the council by a Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Sophia Rosetta Bernasko Essah.
Prof. Adom-Frimpong decorated the new president with a pendant to signify his new role.

The other members of the council are Dr. Cynthia Sallah, Mr. Redeemer Krah, Mr. Augustine Addo, Mr. Abdullai Alhassan, and Mrs. Agnes Otoo-Yeboah.
The rest are Mr. Michael Asiedu, Mr. Kwasi Kwamin Bosompim, Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah and Mr. Anthony K. Sarpong.
The council is the governing authority of the institute and it is made up of 11 professional accountants, all of whom are members of the body.
Four of the council members are usually appointed by the government, while the remaining seven members are elected into office through a voting procedure in which all members participate at an Annual General Meeting.
The council, headed by a president, holds office for a two-year period.
Challenge to leadership
In an address read on his behalf, the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, urged the new council members to improve upon their skills and knowledge to make the institute better than they met it.
He tasked them to place premium on integrity, objectivity, professional competence, confidentiality and firmness at all times.
“Do not ignore the acquisition of soft skills which are essential for social interaction as you climb the corporate ladder, and infuse the profession with a new sense of direction and purpose, that it may grow from strength to strength.
“The government is expecting the institute to entrench its regulatory role in ensuring that we have a conducive investment climate that will attract the appropriate foreign investors to foster government’s development agenda. And that falls on your shoulders as leaders,” he said.
Dr. Opoku-Prempeh also asked the new leadership to strengthen and not to compromise on the professional body’s financial reporting principles, noting that it would bolster investor confidence in the Ghanaian economy in the long run.

Prof. Adom-Frimpong congratulated the incoming president and expressed appreciation to the outgoing council members for working diligently to bring the institute to where it was currently.
He was particularly grateful to some past executives of the institute, including Mr. John Klinogo, Mr. J.O.F. Blankson, and Mr. Chrisitan Sottie.
He pledged to provide the needed support for the new executive to ensure a smooth operation during their tenure of office.
“I want you to be committed and trustworthy. Make yourself available at every meeting and do not take a decision without the consent of other executive members,” he added.
For his part, Prof. Atuilik pledged to diligently carry out his mandate and work with the new leadership to improve upon what his predecessors had done.
