Holy Family Catholic Church marks 70th anniversary

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast, Most Rev. Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, has admonished Christians to live in unity and refrain from tribalism.

Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle, who spoke at the 70th anniversary thanksgiving mass of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Accra, said it was important to learn other people’s languages to improve communication and promote unity.

The anniversary was on the theme: “Harnessing the Gains of 70 Years’ Evangelisation for Future Development.”

The occasion brought together past and present parish priests, associate priests and the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Jean-Marie Speich.

As part of activities to mark the anniversary, the church embarked on a blood donation exercise, health walk, trade exhibition, food bazaar and made some donations to the aged and the needy at Ahountorkrom.

Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle, who is also the Apostolic Administrator of Accra Archdioceses, commended the anniversary committee for the good work.

The Priest of the Holy Family Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr Delase Parku, charged the members to continue in the grace in the new year and spread the good news to win more souls for the kingdom business.

He commended the pioneers of the parish for their hard work and dedication, adding that “I wish to commend those through whose toil this great family was started and those who have nurtured it through various phases and sacrifices to ensure its growth and development to this day.”

Background

The Holy Family Catholic Church was established in 1948 as an outstation of the Sacred Heart Parish to serve Catholic migrants from northern Ghana and Togo who had settled at Abossey Okai, Town Council Line and the surrounding communities.
