Hack54 to tackle fintech problems

Forms Capital Limited, a financial solutions company, has partnered with two other firms to host this year's edition of Hack54, a 48-hour hackathon focused on building digital finance solutions in Ghana.

The other two firms are The Design Junkies, a youth tech engagement, innovation and empowerment firm and organiser of the event, alongside Socialite AF, a consultancy firm.

The partnership was made official at a signing ceremony in Accra recently.

Initiative

Hack54 seeks to bring together developers, designers, product thinkers and entrepreneurs to develop minimum viable products (MVPs) around real-world financial challenges.

This year's edition will run from July 14 to 17  at the  Google AI Community Center in Accra.

It will focus on fintech and digital assets , with participants working in teams to design and pitch solutions.

The programme uses short, intensive innovation challenges to build early-stage technology products.

This edition will challenge graduates and young professionals to provide solutions to Fintech problems in the country.

Participants will be grouped into teams and guided through a structured product development process.

They will then work for 48 hours  to design and build a functional product or prototype.

Each team will pitch their solutions to a panel of judges at the end of the hackathon.

The winners will receive cash prizes, mentorship and access to investor and industry platforms.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Head of Business Development at Forms Capital Limited,  Ishmael Abbey, said the partnership reflected the firm's growing commitment to expanding financial inclusion and empowering the next generation of innovators across the country and the continent.

He said the focus on fintech highlighted the growing demand for tools that improved access to payments, savings, credit and investment services in areas of youth banking, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) financing, agribusiness solutions and digital payments.

"I think the future of finance will be shaped by digital innovation that solves real problems for real people.

Our transformation journey goes beyond banking. It is about building inclusive financial systems that reach more people, especially the underserved," he said.

Mr Abbey added that the institution was strategically repositioning itself to leverage technology as a catalyst for accessible, efficient and inclusive financial services.

"Our collaboration with Hack54 reinforces this vision by supporting innovation at the intersection of finance, technology and human-centered design," he stated.

A co-founder of Socialite AF, Klenam Fiadzoe, said Forms Capital’s direction in digital transformation aligned perfectly with what Hack54 sought to accomplish.

“Partnering with Hack54 gives us the opportunity to invest in bold ideas and support young innovators building solutions that matter," he said.

For his part, the founder of The Design Junkies, Samuel Allotey, encouraged graduates and young professionals to apply, saying the contest would help move from ideas to working products.

"Past editions have produced solutions that have gone on to solve various tech-related problems," he said.
