The committee reviewing entries for the 30th GJA Media Awards has completed its assessment and submitted its report to the association’s National Executive.
The committee, chaired by former Daily Graphic Editor, Kobby Asmah, reviewed entries submitted for works published in 2025 and announced the nominees following the assessment.
It received 327 entries from 206 applicants and reviewed 326 entries across six divisions covering print, television, radio, online, digital and new media.
The assessment produced 36 citations across the award categories, culminating in the GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year Award to be presented at the 30th GJA Media Awards ceremony scheduled for Saturday at the Palms Convention at La Palm Beach Resort in Accra.
Mr Asmah said the committee applied a 10-point assessment framework, with each criterion scored out of 10 marks, giving each entry possible score of 100 per cent.

The criteria included accuracy, newsworthiness, ethical standards, public impact, originality, storytelling, research, balance, technical quality and compliance with category requirements.
The committee recommended a minimum qualifying score of 70 per cent for an entry to qualify for an award.
It also identified shortcomings in some submissions, including entries placed in inappropriate categories, stories published outside the eligible period, inaccessible links, illegible materials, photographs without captions and misleading headlines.
To improve future editions, the committee recommended training clinics to guide journalists on award requirements, a conclave for future committees, continuity through a standing committee or the retention of at least one member from a previous committee, and improved accessibility and legibility of submitted materials.
