The announcement was made by the Global Chairman of the Assemblies of God (AG), Reverend Dominic Yeo, at a press conference following an Executive Council Meeting held at the Lancaster Hotel in Accra yesterday to plan the world congress.
The World Congress of the Assemblies of God to be hosted by the Ghana Assemblies of God Church will take place from October 14-16, 2026, in Accra, and will welcome more than 10,000 delegates from across the world in an event which is held every three years.
The selection of Ghana as the host is a historic one, as it will become the first country in Africa to host the World Assemblies of God Congress in the 110-year history of the Assemblies of God Church. This feat is coming to Ghana after 93 years of the Assemblies of God Church in the country.
Rationale, Benefits
In an address, Rev. Yeo said the “choice of Ghana for the upcoming congress is informed largely by the peaceful and free environment Ghana had had over the years.
Ghana has demonstrated that it is the beacon of hope for Africa by democratically and peacefully electing the political leadership every four years”; adding that Ghanaians continue to co-exist peacefully irrespective of their political, religious or ethnic differences.
He commended Ghanaians for their tolerance and urged that the upcoming elections be held in the same peaceful manner as the previous ones.
“We in Assemblies of God Worldwide, are standing with you in prayer because the scriptures enjoin us to pray for nations in which we dwell, so we can worship our God in peace.
We believe that all political, security and other actors in the electoral process will do their jobs well in the interest of peace,” he said.
The Global Chairman of the AG indicated that Ghana stood the chance of reaping many economic benefits, being the host of the world congress; noting that, it would push the country higher on the world stage, grow businesses and attract investors.
He emphasised that the World Assemblies of God, with “about 86 million members globally and 24 million in Africa alone, is expecting delegates from all over the world to attend the world congress in Accra in 2026, adding that, “Ghana is a beautiful country. We shall make time to visit the country’s exciting, beautiful and attractive tourist sites”.
