GAAMP moves to strengthen regulation in growing aesthetic sector

The Ghana Association of Aesthetic and MedSpa Practitioners (GAAMP) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professional standards, ethical practice and regulatory compliance within the country’s growing aesthetics and MedSpa sector.

The Association made the commitment at its membership induction ceremony and stakeholders' engagement meeting held in Accra, where practitioners, healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders gathered to discuss the future of aesthetic and MedSpa practice in the country.

The event also marked the formal induction of new members into the Association, a move aimed at strengthening professionalism and accountability within the industry.

Addressing the gathering, the President and Founder of GAAMP, Linda Mensah, said the Association was established to provide a structured platform for practitioners and to advance standards within a sector that continued to experience significant growth.

She said although Ghana's aesthetics and MedSpa industry was home to many skilled and dedicated practitioners, there had been a need for a unified body to support, represent and guide the profession.

"What was missing was not the talent. What was missing was the structure to protect it.

That is why GAAMP exists," she stated.

Ms Mensah said the induction of members signified a new chapter for the industry, adding that practitioners now had an opportunity to operate within a recognised professional framework that promotes accountability and best practice.

She explained that GAAMP was actively engaging key institutions, including the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HEFRA), the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), and the Ministry of Health, as part of efforts to strengthen standards and enhance regulation within the sector.

According to her, collaboration between practitioners, regulators and policymakers would be critical to ensuring patient safety and maintaining public confidence in aesthetic and MedSpa services.

"This profession deserves a seat at every table where decisions about it are made," she said.

Participants at the engagement meeting discussed issues relating to industry standards, professional development, patient safety, training, ethics and regulatory compliance.

The discussions also highlighted the need for greater collaboration among stakeholders to support the sustainable growth of the industry and ensure that services are delivered in accordance with recognised standards.

Ms Mensah expressed appreciation to stakeholders for supporting the Association's vision and urged newly inducted members to uphold the values of professionalism, integrity and accountability.

The Ghana Association of Aesthetic and MedSpa Practitioners (GAAMP) is a professional body committed to advancing standards, education, ethical practice and stakeholder collaboration within Ghana’s aesthetics and MedSpa industry.
