Ga West Presbytery erects new district

The Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) last Sunday erected a new district with a charge on it to spearhead the holistic development of children and youth in the church.

The Sakaman District, carved out of the Dansoman District, becomes the 14th district to be erected since the creation of the Ga West Presbytery.

The district, which has the Ramseyer Congregation, Sakaman, as its head station, will have five other congregations under its supervision.

The ceremony which brought together both past and present ministers of the church and representatives from sister congregations and districts, also saw the induction of the First District Minister, Rev. Emmanuel Awaitey Anneh, into office.

Sermon

In a sermon on the theme: "The family, the future of the Church", the Chairperson of the Ga West Presbytery, Rev. Daniel A. Nyarko, encouraged the church and parents to take keen interest in nurturing their children and youth to build a more responsible society.

"The family stands for the future of the church.

Let us give an opportunity to the young ones to grow in Christ, while providing them with adequate education so that eventually they will become responsible citizens to lead this country to prosperity," he noted.

Rev. Nyarko tasked the new district to "bridge the gap between the adult and children service. Focus attention on that area, provide all needed resources for them and their teachers because when the children are well groomed, then we have a better church tomorrow."

Forge ahead

For his part, Rev. Anneh ascribed glory to the Lord for his induction and rallied the support of members in the district to "forge ahead as one body with a common agenda of reaching out to the world."

He said his vision would include championing quality and exemplary Christian living among members, while striving to encourage "sound doctrine in this period of religious proliferation, conflicting and questionable Christian practices" to promote growth of the church.

Rev. Anneh expressed the belief that the district was "receiving marching orders at a time the entire Presbyterian Church in Ghana is sending her people to go and make disciples of all nations and we cannot afford to disobey.”

“We must work together to aid the work of evangelism in the church and also support each other to grow," he urged.

The Dansoman District (mother district) presented the new Sakaman District with GH¢10,000 and a bible to start its operations.
