With a robust presence of 29 branches and a wide-reaching network of agents providing services across 10 regions, FirstBank Ghana is well-known not only for its banking services but also for its significant contributions to society’s well-being.

This year, FirstBank’s employees supported the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central’s annual fundraiser, dubbed, “Walk for a Child”.

The funds raised this year will be directed towards the completion of the Berekusu Community Clinic in the Eastern Region, a crucial facility expected to provide much-needed healthcare services to the underserved population of Berekusu and its surrounding communities.

The initiative to support Rotary’s efforts was part of FirstBank Ghana’s broader goal to promote the voluntary spirit, leadership and commitment to community impact among its employees.

Supporting Rotary projects nationwide

The “Walk for a Child” event, which saw a turnout of some FirstBank staff, culminated in the bank's employees raising GH¢40,000 to support three key Rotary Club projects.

The largest portion of the funds, GH¢20,000 was donated to the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central President, Albert Bahun-Wilson, the principal organiser of the annual walk to complete a clinic being constructed by the club for the residents of Berekuso.

Additionally, FirstBank employees extended their generosity to two other clubs, both of which are led by the bank’s staff members.

They donated GH¢10,000 to the Rotary E-Club of Ghana, whose president, Ama Amonoo Amevor, works with the Retail Products Team at FirstBank.

Similarly, GH¢10,000 was given to the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central led by Lawrence Buhun-Wilson from the Corporate Banking department.

High-level endorsement

The initiative received strong backing from the top echelons of FirstBank Ghana’s leadership that had since 2019 supported the Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central with cash donations for various child-focused projects.

The “Walk for a Child” event, which took place at the University of Ghana campus on September 14, 2024, was graced by the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive, Victor Yaw Asante, who participated in the walk alongside other executives.

Other leadership members present were the Head of Retail Banking, Allen Quaye, and the Country Team Lead of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Enoch Vanderpuye.

Their active involvement in the event highlighted the importance the bank placed on being a socially responsible institution that not only drove economic growth but also contributed to society’s development.

Impacting lives, communities

The GH¢40,000 contribution from FirstBank Ghana's employees was raised through a coordinated effort involving all the bank's branches, departments and units.

Staff members were encouraged to contribute towards the Rotary projects and the outcome was a clear reflection of their shared commitment to making a lasting difference in the communities the FirstBank brand serves.
