First Lady presents business start-ups to women in Central Region

The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo, has presented start-up equipment, appliances and cash to some women in the Central Region to boost their businesses as part of activities to mark International Women’s Day (IWD) in Cape Coast.

The IWD is marked every year on March 8, globally to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The 120 beneficiaries, selected from the various districts in the Central Region and a few from the Greater Accra Region, received deep freezers, ovens and some cash.

Fifty others, who were trained under the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) in handiworks, were also supported with start-up equipment and presented with certificates.

At a durbar to mark the IWD last Tuesday, Mrs Akufo-Addo said the gesture was to support the businesses of the women and to empower them to take good care of their families.

The Rebecca Foundation

She stated that the Rebecca Foundation was committed to helping women and children across the nation and would continue to work to ensure that women were rightfully positioned to take care of themselves and their families.

She said it was obvious that women played crucial roles in the care and sustenance of families and it was important they were given support to expand their businesses to give them a firm financial grounding.

Retain government

She said the government had done a lot to improve the well-being of Ghanaians in all facets of the nation’s growth, saying every truthful person could not deny the works of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and urged them to vote the government back into power.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Kwamena Duncan, said the great work done by the First Lady was evident and urged all to vote the government back into power.

The Executive Director of the NBSSI, Mrs Kosi Antwiwaa Yankey, in her remarks, thanked the Rebecca Foundation for coming in to support the trainees.
