Fanaka International University College (FIUC) has partnered with the Ghana Investment and Securities Institute (GISI) to strengthen professional training for students pursuing its Master of Science (MSc) in Finance programme.
The partnership seeks to align the university college’s academic curriculum with capital market industry standards and provide students with clearer pathways to professional qualifications, licensing requirements and career development in securities and investments.
Under the agreement, FIUC will provide the academic platform through its MSc in Finance programme, while GISI will provide professional training, industry expertise and guidance on qualification pathways.
The collaboration will also cover curriculum and assessment benchmarking, practitioner engagement, continuing professional development, research dialogue and securities-market capacity building.
The partnership would further expose students and faculty to the practical requirements of the financial industry, developments in asset classes, corporate governance and digital finance through GISI’s professional development activities.
The two institutions made the agreement official with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the premises of FIUC in Accra.
Meeting demands
The Rector of FIUC, Professor Samuel Agyei-Ampomah, said the partnership would make the university college’s finance programme more responsive to the demands of the financial services industry.
“True academic excellence must be measured by market readiness, and a postgraduate degree should not merely be a credential on a wall, but a powerful catalyst for a career,” he said.
He said GISI’s relationship with the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) in the United Kingdom would also connect students to an international professional qualification framework.
GISI
For his part, the Chief Executive Officer of GISI, Alexander Williams, said the collaboration would help students understand the professional routes available to them and make informed decisions about their careers in the capital markets.
He added that students who joined GISI as members would have access to resources and opportunities in the capital markets before and after they entered professional practice.
Mr Williams said GISI began formal professional training in 2020 through two streams: the GISI Professional Pathway, linked to requirements for obtaining a representative licence from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and the GISI -CISI Qualification Pathway, developed with the UK institution.
GISI was initially incorporated in 2015 by the SEC, the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE), the Central Securities Depository and the Ghana Securities Industry Association.
It was certified as a professional body by the Office of the Registrar of Companies on December 3, 2025, under the Professional Bodies Registration Act, 1973 (NRCD 143).
Its mandate includes training professionals, conducting research and educating the public on securities and investments.
