Ecobank hands over digital learning centre to 4 Garrison Education Centre

Ecobank Ghana PLC has handed a fully-equipped digital learning centre to the 4 Garrison Education Centre in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to provide digital and innovation skills to both teachers and school pupils.

The inauguration which was done to commemorate Ecobank Day, 2026, was on the theme: “Building tomorrow’s digital skills today”.

It involved the refurbishment of the physical facility, the provision of furniture and the installation of 26 computers and accessories together with other equipment required to create an effective digital learning environment.

The commissioning of the centre brings to seven the total number of digital centres established by Ecobank Ghana between 2023 and 2026, thereby expanding opportunities for young people to acquire the digital skills required for the future.

Future

In a speech delivered on her behalf at a ceremony to officially hand over the facility, the Managing Director, Ecobank Ghana PLC, Abena Osei-Poku, said the future belonged to young people who were equipped with the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to understand and use technology.

She said technology was changing learning, how to communicate, work and solve problems, saying “it is creating new industries and professions while transforming many existing ones”.

“If our children are to participate fully in the evolving world, we must give them opportunities to engage meaningfully with technology from an early age.

That is why this project goes beyond providing computers”, she stated.

Skills-set

She mentioned that the centre would offer the pupils the opportunity to acquire practical skills-set in coding, web development, animation, robotics, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

She said “it is intended to be a place where young people can explore ideas, develop creativity, solve problems and discover possibilities that may change their future”.

Integration into learning

Mrs Osei-Poku stressed “we expect this centre to be fully integrated into teaching and learning in the school”, and further encouraged the school authorities and teachers to take ownership of the facility, protect the equipment and ensure that the pupils have regular and equitable access to it”.

While encouraging the teachers to lead the learning process by providing a central role towards the success of the investment, she said “technology will continue to evolve but the guidance and curiosity you inspire in your pupils will remain indispensable”.

She advised the pupils to use the centre well, be curious about how technology worked   and should not be afraid to experiment in their quest to acquire digital skills.

Powerful tool

The Director of Education, Ghana Armed Forces General Headquarters, Colonel Osman Zuneidu, said although education remained one of the powerful tools for personal progress and national development, it went beyond the four walls of a classroom.

He said it required access to information, modern technology and an environment that encouraged learners to have access to learning space that promoted innovation.

“This learning centre will provide learners with the opportunity to develop essential digital skills, explore them and prepare themselves for the demands of increasing technological-driven world” he stated

He commended the management of Ecobank Ghana PLC for their generosity towards the school, and urged the leadership of the education centre to take good care of it and ensure that it was used for the intended purpose.

For his part, the Garrison Education Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Niminga-Beka, said the benefactor had played its part with the provision of the facility, and urged the teachers and school pupils to take advantage of them to improve their technological skills and knowledge.
