The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region, through its Social Welfare and Community Development Department, has disbursed the second round of items to 58 persons with disability in the district.
The applicants received various items including deep freezers, fridges, sewing machines, wheelchairs, fiscal cash, among others.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Ignatius Godfred Dordoe, who was represented by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Nicholas Owen Korletey, told the beneficiaries to ensure the items were put to good use to serve the intended purposes.
According to the DCE, the current government was ready to support PWDs in living meaningful lives and improving living conditions.
He cautioned the beneficiaries not to attempt selling the items, adding “the government has good intentions for you and, therefore, there should be no disappointment from your end”.
The Social Welfare and Community Development Director for the Assembly, Theresa Kutu, said the district had over 500 PWDs, stressing that those who were shortlisted to receive support should use the items judiciously to improve their living conditions.
She hinted that her department would soon lead a team from the Assembly to monitor every beneficiary who received support to ensure they received technical advice and help.
The Director for the National Health Insurance Scheme, Frank Opata, and his team educated the PWDs on the new NHIS regulations.
Their cards were renewed, and new ones were issued to those without health insurance cards.
A beneficiary, Maxwell Tettey, a student of the University of Ghana, who received a laptop, thanked the government, the district assembly, as well as the Social Welfare and Community Development Department for giving them what they requested.
