Deploy more security intelligence from BNI to Chereponi - Kofi Benti urges gov’t

Vice President of policy think-tank, IMANI Africa, Mr Kofi Bentil has called for enough security intelligence to be deployed from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to the North-East region as a means of finding lasting solutions to the prolonged conflict in Chereponi.

Blaming the state’s security and intelligence agencies for the prolonged conflict, Mr Bentil said if the state gives the conflict the needed attention; it would fissile out in no time.

“How much of our National Security resources have we committed to these conflicts….we have more National Security operatives in malls in Accra than in the conflict zones.” He said.

Mr Bentil made the call on Accra based Joy FM’s news analysis show, Newsfile on Saturday.

Mr Bentil added that the state apparatus is well equipped to investigate and find lasting solutions to the clashes between Konkomba and Chokosis in the conflict-laden town.

Speaking on the show, the Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide, Mr Kweku Baako Jnr has questioned the government’s failure to implement the proposal for setting up a military base in the area.

“The ministry of defence made this point. In permanent strategy terms it is the intention government to position a battalion permanently in the north eastern part of the country to cater for the whole area”, he said

Meanwhile, a conflict analyst, Col. Festus Aboagye (RTD) also blamed the government for the proliferation of arms in the area.

He said the “individual will provide his own security if the state fails” to do so.

He also faulted the state for its failure to arrest the regime of using motorbikes for crime
