The union has gone on strike over the non-implementation of the new salary structure by the government which was agreed on by both parties on August 31, 2022.

Announcing the industrial action in Accra last Tuesday, the Executive Secretary of the union, Dr Isaac Bampoe Addo, said the action aligned with their letter dated June 21 this year to the government.

Response

“The move is a response to the perceived neglect of our concerns regarding poor conditions of service,” he said. The executive secretary said the letter indicated their intentions to proceed on a nationwide strike if the new salary structure for the staff of the Civil Service and the Local Government Service was not implemented, “We hereby declare a nationwide strike with effect from Wednesday, July 3, 2024”.

“All staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service should stay away from work until further notice. Similarly, all CLOGSAG Secretariats are to be shut down. We want a salary structure and this is not something that we are starting now,” Dr Bampoe Addo said.

On June 21 this year, CLOGSAG served notice to the government to embark on a nationwide strike action on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, if the government failed to deliver on the agreement.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in January 2022 stipulated that the new salary structure would take effect from January 1, last year. However, the implementation has been delayed for a year and a half, prompting the decision to embark on the strike action.
