Cenpower Generation Ltd (Cenpower), owner of the Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP), has removed 600 tonnes of waste from Sega Beach through the fourth edition of its annual KIPP Clean Project, reinforcing efforts to address coastal pollution and promote responsible waste management.
The initiative brought together Cenpower, Cenpower Operations (Cenops), the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly, Excelior Solution Services, employees and other stakeholders and members of the Kpone community to support clean-up efforts along the Sega Beach shoreline in the Tema Industrial enclave.
The KIPP Clean Project, launched in September 2023, is an environmental initiative aimed at reducing waste pollution, protecting marine ecosystems and promoting collective responsibility for maintaining a clean and healthy coastal environment.
A statement issued by the company on October 26, 2026, said the volume highlighted the scale of waste accumulation along the shoreline and reinforced the importance of sustained efforts to address coastal pollution.
To support the clean-up exercise and ensure the proper handling of collected waste, Cenpower continued its collaboration with Excelior Solution Services, a specialist in waste management and coastal sanitation.
Commitment to sustainability
Speaking on the initiative, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cenpower, Theophilus Sackey, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainability and collaboration with stakeholders.
He noted that environmental responsibility extended beyond business operations and required collective action to protect the communities and natural environments within which organisations would operate.
Mr Sackey also highlighted the effects of improper waste disposal, noting that waste discarded into the ocean could be washed back onto the shoreline, creating
recurring pollution challenges and affecting surrounding communities and activities along the coast.
He emphasised the importance of combining clean-up efforts with responsible waste disposal practices and sustained public participation.
Cleaner environment
The Director of Environmental Services, Freeman George, who represented the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly, commended Cenpower for sustaining the initiative, now in its fourth edition.
He called on businesses, institutions and residents to support efforts to keep the municipality’s communities and coastline clean.
Community members also expressed appreciation for Cenpower’s continued efforts to improve the cleanliness of Sega Beach.
The Plant Manager of Cenpower Operations, Darlington Ahuble, explained that environmental compliance and cleanliness formed part of the company’s operational responsibilities and added that staff involvement in the initiative helped reinforce environmental awareness and responsible practices.
He underscored the importance of sustaining these efforts beyond the annual exercise, ensuring that environmental responsibility remained an ongoing priority for employees, partners and surrounding communities.
The Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs at Cenpower, Elizabeth Akin-Taylor, called for greater public participation in coastal protection.
She noted that involving local communities in environmental initiatives could strengthen ownership and encourage residents to take greater responsibility for preventing littering and protecting the shoreline.
