The Akatsi South Municipal Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to improving infrastructure to ensure mobility, safety and inclusivity for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Daniel Dagba, gave the assurance when he distributed various livelihood support and income-generating items to 43 PWDs in the municipality at a ceremony in Akatsi recently.
The items, worth GH¢699, 804, included tricycles, refrigerators, deep freezers, industrial machines, mattresses, movable cassava milling machines, movable corn milling machines, electrical appliances, crates of eggs, among others.
Mr Dagba said the assembly would also expand vocational programmes tailored to meet the personal needs of PWDs.
That, he said, would include collaboration with traditional authorities, religious bodies and civil society, to promote the full inclusion of PWDs in every sphere of community life.
He entreated beneficiaries of the items to change the narrative by using the livelihood support items wisely to build their enterprises and support their families.
Mr Dagba commended the Department of Social Welfare, the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations and the assembly staff for their dedication to the welfare of PWDs, saying their noble cause strengthened the overall development of the municipality.
The Akatsi South Municipal Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations, Christian Treve, expressed gratitude for the items, saying it was yet another touching gesture by the assembly to strengthen PWDs' capacity to play active development roles in society.
