A total of 34 artisans in the Ho municipality were presented on Saturday with various working tools worth GH 100,000 under the Dr Doh Tradesmen Empowerment Programme, at a ceremony in Ho-Heve.
The programme is a collaboration between a private medical practitioner, Dr Robert Kofi Doh and a banking services group, OneAfrica Markets.
The items included sewing machines, standing hair dryers, combs, tile-laying machines, barbering machines, aprons with sterilisers and scissors.
They also included electricity testers, socket diagnostic sets and other tools.
Two of the beneficiaries received cash support to expand their businesses.
Presenting the items, Dr Doh said the gesture was meant to enable the beneficiaries to operate their businesses sustainably.
“It is better to help people to fish than to give them fish,” he explained.
Further, the private medical practitioner, who is the proprietor of the Cedarville Hospital in Hohoe, said the move was also about giving hope, dignity and opportunities to the people.
Dr Doh hoped the support would enable the beneficiaries to train others and give them livelihoods in the various communities.
In another development, a 5,000-litre capacity borehole constructed by Dr Doh and OneAfrica Markets for the people of Ho-Heve at a cost of GH 70,000 was formally handed over to the community on the same day.
“Water is life and no community must be left without water,” Dr Doh maintained.
The Dufia of Ho-Heve, Togbe Anikpi III, thanked Dr Doh and OneAfrica Markets for the kind gesture, which he described as very touching.
He said the borehole would help children spend less time looking for water and more time on their studies.
