Alleged $8m romance scam: Abu Trica extradited to the US

Frederick Kumi, popularly known as "Abu Trica", has been extradited to the United States to face charges in relation to an alleged $8 million romance scam case.

This comes after the High Court ordered the extradition of Kumi to the United States.

His lawyers were scheduled to move an application at the High Court yesterday to stay the execution of the extradition, but the lawyers from the Attorney-General’s Office were absent.

Kumi is wanted in the US over his alleged role in the scheme, which targeted elderly Americans.

According to state prosecutors, he participated in a scheme that used AI tools to create fake identities and build relationships with victims in order to solicit money under false pretences.

He faces charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
