Akyem Abuakwa holds durbar in honour of President

The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region has held a grand durbar in honour of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The colourful ceremony attracted people from all walks of life, including chiefs from the Akropong Akuapem Traditional Area, led by the Paramount Chief, Oseadeyyo Kwasi Akuffo Ababio, with a large retinue of elders and other royals, as well as a host of chiefs from the Akyem Bosome and Akyem Kotoku traditional areas.

There were also queenmothers and sub-chiefs from all the three Akyem traditional areas, ministers of state, Members of Parliament, municipal and district chief executives, representatives of religious organisations and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), among others.

The display of culture and tradition was at its best as various cultural troupes performed different rendition of music and dance such as ‘adowa’, ‘kete’ and ‘jama’ to the admiration of all.

The arrival of President Akufo-Addo, an indigene of Akyem Abuakwa and a former Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, set the durbar ground agog.

Appeal

The President appealed to the people to vote massively for him in the December general election.

He asked the electorate to judge him by the performance of the government, saying, Okyenman had so far benefited from 560 projects with 315 completed.
President Akufo-Addo said it was crystal clear that he had not come to deceive the people, but to improve on their living conditions.

The President paid tribute to late J. B. Danquah and his father, Edward Akufo-Addo, whose toil, he said, had culminated in him becoming President of Ghana.

Caution

The Minister of Works and Housing and MP for Abuakwa South, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, said the people should not make a mistake by voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Mr John Mahama.

"This election is about our destiny and if we make a mistake the fortunes of the country will be reversed," he added.

Support

The Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, also entreated the people to support the government to accelerate the development of the country.

For his part, the Okuapemhene, Oseadeyyo Ababio, commended the government for its performance and called for more efforts to enhance the living conditions of the people.
