Akoasi: Protracted chieftaincy dispute resolved

The Gyaasehene of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Kwasi Amo Kyeretwie, has amicably resolved a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the chief of Akoasi near Nkawkaw, Osabarima Gyasi Boateng Aduako II and his Krontihene, Nana Osei Boateng III, which was hindering the progress of the town.

Obrempong Amo Kyeretwie withdrew the case that was pending before the judicial committee of the Akyem Kotoku Traditional Council for peaceful resolution to promote peace and unity in the community.

A number of prominent traditional rulers joined the Kotoku Gyaasehene to arbitrate the matter.

They included the Krontihene of Asante Akyem Agogo, Nana Kwame Nti, the chief of Akyem Kotoku Abodom, Osabarima Asamoah Koranteng III and the Queenmother of Akoasi, Nana Afia Serwaa I.

Before the settlement of the case, the Akoasi Krontihene, who is based in Italy, spoke to the arbitration panel via Zoom to demonstrate his agreement to the resolution and in addition, delegated his Abusuapanin, Opanin Kofi Osei and his junior sister, Theresa Serwaa Boateng, to represent him at the ceremony.

Addressing the two parties after the peaceful resolution, Obrempong Amo Kyeretwie advised them to forget the past and not to revisit the events leading to the litigation, but instead forge ahead to rebuild the community.

He promised to provide a ram to be slaughtered at Akoasi to cement the resolution of the dispute.

He said gone are the days when violence was used to show one’s power over the other.

Obrempong Amo Kyeretwie cautioned that he would deal drastically with any member of the two parties whose action would spark conflict in the town.

Two bloggers from Akoasi, according to the Akoasihene, who were using various platforms to tarnish his image apologised to the chief and made them swear never to engage in such negative attitudes again.
