The ADENTAN Municipal Assembly in the Greater Region has inaugurated three educational infrastructure projects for three basic schools and a health facility in the municipality to improve the quality and access to health and education.
The projects were undertaken with the municipality’s share of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).
The facilities are an 18-unit classroom block phase two for the Adentan Community School, an 18-unit classroom block phase one for the Otano Presbyterian Basic School and a 2-unit Kindergarten classroom block for Ashieye Model School.
The Assembly also inuagurated a 2-storey maternity block and accommodation for Amrahia Community Health Centre.
The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Ella Esinam Christine Nongo, who inaugurated the projects, said the completion of the projects was a demonstration that when public resources were properly prioritised, effectively managed and supported by relevant stakeholders, we could deliver projects that made a meaningful difference in the lives of the people.
The MCE commended the contractors for the work done.
She also acknowledged the contributions of the engineers, artisans, the Assembly officers and other professionals who participated in planning, supervision and execution of the projects, with particular attention to the quality of work done which would last longer for the beneficiary communities.
"We must, however, note that the provision of infrastructure is only one part of the education equation.
A beautiful classroom block by itself cannot guarantee quality education. It must be supported by committed and dedicated teachers, responsible parents, effective supervision by both the Head teachers and the School Improvement Support Officer (SISO) of the Ghana Education Service, adequate teaching and learning materials, discipline and active participation of the learners,’ she said.
The MCE noted that the vision of the Adentan Municipality was to see the municipality where every child has access to quality, inclusive and equitable education opportunities in a safe and conducive learning environment, adding, "we are also mindful of the need to promote inclusive education".
She said about two months ago, the Assembly donated 3,641 pieces of furniture to the schools in dire need of furniture, all aimed at improving quality education in the area.Ms
Nongo appreciated the leadership of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for hosting the school in the church auditorium when the need arose.
The Adentan Municipal Director of Education, Gifty Mussey, thanked the Assembly for the support and advised the beneficiary schools to ensure they maintained the facilities.
The Presiding Member of the Assembly, Mahamud Ya-AdzGey, who also doubles as the Assembly Member for Otano Electoral Area, personally donated 1000 exercise books and two boxes of pens to the Otano Presbyterian Basic School to begin the academic year.
