3 Nabbed in Kumasi for robbery attacks on bank customers

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a criminal syndicate believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs.

Two of the suspects, identified as Aboy Promise, 30, and Favour Uwalaka, 45, were arrested at a hotel situated at Moshie Zongo, while the third, identified as Kingsley alias KC, was also arrested at another hotel in Dechemso.

A press release issued by the Head of the Command's Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Atsu Ahianyo, said the arrests were made on October 31 during an operation by the Inspector General of Police's (IGP) special team made up of the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) following intelligence gathered.

"On October 31, 2026, at about 11:30 p m, an IGP's Special Team, comprising personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), acting on intelligence, embarked on an operation to apprehend these suspects.

The statement said a search conducted in their rooms led to the recovery of GH₵1,600.00, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key used to gain unauthorised access to victims' vehicles and steal cash.

Supt. Ahianyo further stated that during interrogation, the suspects admitted their involvement in the robberies and mentioned two accomplices, Chinedu alias Alhaji and Kingsley alias KC.

The suspects, according to the release, following their arrest, led the police team to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley was also arrested. The fourth suspect, Chinedu, is currently on the run.

The Command is appealing to the public to volunteer any credible information that could lead to his arrest.

Incidents

The statement said preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial sums of money and trailed them before attacking and robbing them.

The suspects, Supt Ahianyo said, admitted to robbing a victim of GH₵15,000 at Asokore Mampong on Tuesday, October 27, this year, after the victim had withdrawn money from the Kwamang Rural Bank.

They also admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank, as well as other locations within Kumasi.

Supt Ahianyo said the suspects were currently being held by the Ashanti Regional Command and were assisting with investigations.

He cautioned bank customers to remain vigilant and be alert to suspicious persons around banking premises and avoid leaving cash and other valuables unattended in vehicles.
