‘Ghana needs 25-year national development policy’ to propel the growth of the country

The founder and presiding bishop of the Adonai International Ministries, Most Rev Dr Richard J.D. Ahiagbedey, has called for a 25-year national development policy that will propel the growth of the country.

According to him, the slow pace of development that the country was witnessing was as a result of the lack of a national development policy.

Rev Dr Ahiagbedey who was speaking to The Mirror in an interview on a wide range of issues bordering on development, stated that the country needed committed leadership to be able to carry out such a policy.

“This system where everybody comes and chooses to do their own thing in bits and pieces is not helping our development agenda and that must stop,” he emphasised.

Five pillars

Rev. Dr Ahiagbedey said the national development policy needed to be centered around five major areas, namely infrastructure, industry, health, education and agriculture, noting that they were the pillars of every country’s development.

On education, Rev Dr Ahiagbedey called for a total overhaul of the educational system to make it more practical based, saying that the current system lacked that.

That, he said, was the basis for the development, noting that it would change how people did things in the country.

He also spoke on issues, including health, environment, attitude, Christianity, homosexuality and politics.

Leadership

In all of those, he said if there were no committed leaders, the national policy would not be adhered to.

“The major challenge we have as a country is leadership, and if we focus on solving that, we can achieve whatever we have purposed to achieve.

“The policy should be such that whoever comes to power will have to be compelled to focus on these five key areas; should be the guiding principle for every leader and should be a check system in place that will compel anybody who comes to power to follow, no matter their political affiliation,” he noted.

He further called on the church not to shy away from politics, adding that it was the church’s responsibility to raise leaders for the nation.

While condemning homosexuality, Rev Dr Ahiagbedey said the church should also extend a hand to those who were involved and preach the word of God to them to turn away from their bad deeds.

“I am not against any homosexual but I am against the act because it will bring destruction to the body.

“It is not human. I believe that something biochemically has gone wrong, and that needs to be worked on. It is spiritual, and therefore, must be dealt with spiritually.

When God created man, he didn’t put in man to go for man or woman after woman,” he stated.
