After series of test the Health service diagnose a ’Type A-H3N2’ sessional flu which responds well to current treatment regimen for influenza management.

Influenza A3 is a variant of the influenza virus, also known as the “seasonal flu”.

It contains strains of influenza of avian and human varieties and is responsible for several high profile epidemics.

Also, it is transmitted in much the same way that other similar influenza variants are transmitted.

Particles from an infected person can be encountered through physical contact, airborne particles, or contact with surfaces and objects that have become infected.

Symptoms do not differ greatly from other strains of the influenza virus and include fever, body and joint ache, fatigue, dry cough, runny nose and sore throat.

However, the Ghana Health Service says the situation is now under control. Speaking to Accra based Starr FM, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Health Service, Jacob Acquah Andoh, said the health service have been in constant contact with the headteachers of the school.

He said the health service will continue to mount surveillance on the affected schools until there is no case of the disease in the schools anymore.

He urged parents of affected students and the general public to stay calm while parents encourage their wards to adhere to the instructions given to them by the Health service, explaining it would help to curtail the disease.
