As a follow up to two separate press statements issued by Ghana Gas and the Power Ministry on Tuesday that indicated there was a serious clash between the two agencies over who was to blame with regards to the increased load-shedding situation in the country, the Ghana Gas on Wednesday issued a second statement that said it was confident in government’s effort.

The statement which was signed by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr George Sipa-Adjah Yankey, said it was committed to continuing its close collaboration with Volta River Authority (VRA) and other relevant agencies to realize this goal.

The Power Ministry had in an earlier statement on Tuesday attributed the current increase in the quantum of load shedding to the shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Plant to enable the African Middle-East Investment (AMERI) power plant to be connected to the gas supply system of Ghana Gas.

But the Ghana Gas in a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Affairs, Mr Alfred Ogbamey, said the claim by the Ministry of Power that Ghana Gas was responsible the worsened power situation was not true.

Dr Sipa-Adjah Yankey, responding the clashes, confirmed that as a result of works currently taking place at the Aboadze Power Enclave to tie-in the AMERI Plant to the VRA facilities, it ceased processing and supplying of gas to the Aboadze Thermal Plant on November 23, 2015.

“This is to protect the integrity of the ongoing works and the facilities of both VRA and Ghana Gas and also to ensure the safety of VRA and Ghana Gas Engineers working on the Project.”

“Ghana Gas, as part of its collaborative effort with VRA and to expedite the tie-in works, supplied all the piping, valves and fittings for the works at Aboadze. In addition, Ghana Gas and VRA engineers are jointly working around the clock to complete the works on time,” he said.

According to Ghana Gas it is expected that when the tie-in works are completed, the AMERI Plant will generate about 250MW of power. This will bring the total production of power generated at the Aboadze Plant to about 850MW.
