The cement donation which was made by the GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF), is a support package for the institutions which are currently undertaking various infrastructural projects.

Last Friday’s event covered the northern sector. The Southern Sector comprising the Western, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regions had earlier received 21, 000 bags at a ceremony held in Cape Coast a month ago

Welcoming beneficiaries to the event, Secretary to the GCF, Dr. George Dawson-Ahmoah, entreated the beneficiaries to adhere to the rules regarding the collection process to achieve the objective for which they applied.

The Managing Director of GHACEM, Morten Gade, in an address observed that for the past 13 years, the foundation had contributed immensely to cutting down the infrastructural deficit in the country’s health and educational sectors.

This, he noted, reinforced the importance GHACEM attached to its corporate social responsibility, which it had vigorously pursued since its establishment 48 years ago.

Mr. Gade said a new mill had been commissioned at the company’s plant in Takoradi as part of efforts to increase production capacity and meet market demands.

He however lamented that its operations were currently hampered by unreliable power supply and the continuous depreciation of the cedi against major international currencies.

This notwithstanding, Mr. Gade said Ghacem will work relentless to maintain its hold of the domestic market, “by producing and delivering innovative, high-quality, cost effective and environmentally-responsible cement.”

The Chairman of the foundation, Nana Prah Agyensaim VI, bemoaned the low number of applicants from the northern sector especially the Upper East and the Upper West regions and called on the leaders in the area to apply to the foundation for assistance.
