Three of the suspects died in a shootout with the police, while the fourth is suspected to have been lynched by the members of the community.

The victims, who are yet to be identified, are believed to be among a five-member syndicate that used logs to block the road from Kensere to Adubia, with the intention of robbing commuters.

Their bodies have since been deposited at the St Martin’s Catholic Hospital at Agroyesum for preservation and identification.

Confirmation

Confirming the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, told the Daily Graphic that the Manso Nkwanta Police patrol team, while on its normal patrol duties, picked information around 3 a.m. that some armed robbers had blocked the road between Kensere and Adubia with logs and were about to rob commuters.

She said when the team got to the scene, it saw the cab and its five occupants who had alighted from it.

According to her, on seeing the police, the suspects opened fire, and during the shootout, two managed to escape with the cab, while three perished.

She said the police later picked up information that one of them was lynched by members of the community.

A single-barrelled gun and a locally made pistol were retrieved from the scene.
