The deceased, all males, included two children aged 8 and 12.

The torrential rains have also displaced about 50 people at Sumbrungu, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality.

The Upper East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr Jerry Asamani who made this known to the Graphic Online on Monday, September 7, 2020 emphasized that the incidents happened last Saturday due to torrential rains and not as a result of the Bagre Dam spillage.

He however could not readily provide the names of all affected people.

He further explained that the affected people at Sumbrungu were being supplied with mosquito nets and coils, mattresses, soap, basins and buckets among others to support them.

Touching on a number of passengers who were stranded on the Bolgatanga-Bawku highway, Mr Asamani said that NADMO had to seek the support of some police personnel to compel some of the people not to risk their lives as they attempted to wade through the floods.

He expressed optimism that when the water receded, NADMO in the Region would be able to assess the extent of damage including some cattle that were washed away by the floods.
