The court, presided over by Mr Richard D. Anku, remanded George Osei Mensah who has been provisionally charged with murder, in custody to reappear on January 9, 2018.

The accused, Mensah, was put before the court for stabbing Martin Tweneboah, alias Tipsy, 32, with a broken bottle at the Commonwealth Hall on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Presenting the facts of the case, Inspector Joyce Ninson said Mensah and Tweneboah attended the funeral of a former student of the University of Ghana, who was a Vandal, at Dodowa in the Shai Osudoku District in the Greater Accra Region on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

Argument

While the two were in the Commonwealth Hall van on their way back to Accra, they engaged in a heated argument over who was a Vandal and who was not.

Tweneboah allegedly ordered Mensah to get out of the van, which was for Vandals, as it belonged to the Commonwealth Hall.

When they arrived at the University of Ghana, the argument heated up and Mensah allegedly grabbed an empty bottle, broke it and stabbed Tweneboah multiple times in the neck close to the Father Bacchus statue at the Commonwealth Hall.

The incident was reported to the police after Tweneboah had been taken to the Legon Hospital and pronounced dead.
