The donation, the second by the fitness club, was in response to the promise it made to the station.

The District Police Commander, Superintendent Cephas Arthur, called for more of such support to the command to enhance its work.

Mr Arthur, who is spearheading an appeal for public-spirited individuals and organisations to support effective policing in the area, said the police command in the area had one vehicle that was inadequate for effective patrol.

“I made a call to the members that we needed to do effective patrol, and to be able to do that, we need certain logistics and facilities, especially vehicles, to make patrolling easy because we only have one vehicle which is not enough to do effective patrol; they assured me of their support,” he said.

Commendation

An executive member of the club, Mr Humphrey Awuletey-Williams, who single-handedly financed the procurements of the items, led the club to present the bicycles to the police.

Mr Awuletey-Williams, who is also the Managing Director of Oswal Investment Limited, commended Mr Arthur for his good work since he became the District Police Commander.

“Cephas Arthur just joined recently, but one can see a lot of improvement since he came. So all we have to do as executives within the community is to help him, which is what we are trying to do,” he said.

Mr Awuletey-Williams reiterated the need for individuals and corporate institutions to support in empowering the police to work effectively.

He said the police station, since its inauguration in April 2016, had been doing well.

“Now you can see them at vantage points that normally have huge traffic to direct. You can see the visibility; it is clear,” he added.

Regional command

For his part, the Deputy Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mr Owusu Boateng, who received the items on behalf of the police, thanked members of the club for their support.

He said the items had come at a time when the police administration was embarking on what he called “Transformation Drive” to reform their activities and operations to make policing in communities more effective.

“One of the focuses of the transformation drive is the community policing. We want to get the community involved in our activities and to do that, we need to reach out to them by visiting their homes and offices,” he said.
