Personal effects running into thousands of cedis were burnt to ashes.

The occupants, including the chief, Nana Kofi Darko lll, his wife, Mrs Elizabeth Darko Mensah, and their two children, as well as a tenant  in the house managed to escape unhurt.

Narrating his ordeal, Nana Darko said at dawn  last week Wednesday when the lights went off,  he was awoken by a sound outside his room and as such he sat on his bed.

He said he heard another sound and, therefore, went to the main hall  and when he opened the door to the corridor he saw the fire and quickly called his wife and the children to run for their lives.

Escape

He said they all assembled in the hall looking for an exit and because there was no light in the hall, it was difficult for them to use the key to open the door to escape.

Nana Darko said he  called the tenant who was also asleep to wake up and run for his life.

According to him he placed a distress call to the Nkawie office of  the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) but the fire personnel could not respond immediately because their vehicle was faulty.

He said before the personnel could mobilise resources from the Nyinahin office of the GNFS, the house had been razed down.

Although investigations were yet to be completed, Nana Darko said he suspected that someone might have intentionally set the house ablaze.
