A section of the roof of the house and a bedroom were ravaged by the fire.

Eyewitness said the fire started around 1:30 p.m. but the quick response of Fire Service personnel prevented it from spreading and causing more damage.

When the Daily Graphic reached the scene, the fire had been brought under control, while some members of the household were bringing out what they had been able  to salvage.

The Assistant Division Officer of the Makola branch of the Ghana National fire service, Mr Eric Nortey, said firemen were able to put out the fire in five minutes.

He said the cause of the fire was not known yet and that investigations into it had started.

The owner of the house, Mr Henry Quaye told the Daily Graphic that he was chatting with his visitors outside when he heard some noise in his room.

He followed up to find out what was happening only to realise that his house was on fire, he said.

Mr Quaye thanked the fire service personnel for their prompt response and for quickly bringing the fire under control.
