Fake land agent dupes friend

An auto mechanic is in trouble for duping his bosom friend of GH¢3,000.

Abdul Rahman told his friend, Patrick Darko, an auto sprayer who wanted land to set up a shop, that he knew a land owner who could help him.

Rahman then promised to buy the land for Darko at the cost GH¢38,000, but bolted after receiving GH¢3,000 as part-payment.

The Adjabeng Court 1 in Accra, presided over by Mr Arit Nsemoh, granted Rahman bail in the sum of  GH¢10,000.00, but referred the case for settlement by alternative dispute resolution.

Presenting the facts, the Prosecutor, Sergeant Lois Konadu, told the court that the complainant, Darko, and Rahman were good friends who both lived at Kotobaabi, a suburb of Accra.

Sergeant Konadu said that somewhere in 2014, Darko told Rahman that he needed land to set up a shop and Rahman offered to help him in looking for one.

Rahman later told Darko that he had met a man who had land for sale and, therefore, offered to negotiate on Darko’s behalf.

Sgt Konadu said Rahman then told Darko that the landowner was demanding GH¢38,000 but Darko offered to pay GH¢3,000 and promised to pay the rest later.

After collecting the money, Sergeant Konadu said Rahman went into hiding.

Darko therefore lodged a complaint at the Nima Police Station but all efforts to trace Rahman proved futile till April this year when the Nima police arrested him.
