Background

The Daily Graphic published in its Saturday, July 9 edition that the government said it had taken note of demands by the organised labour unions for the 20 per cent CoLA in the light of the current economic conditions in the country.

The government indicated that it was committed to engaging organised labour to find a lasting solution to the problem and, therefore, appealed to the various teacher unions to call off their current industrial action.

The appeal was the outcome of a meeting the government, represented by the Ministers of Employment and Labour Relations, Finance, Education and National Security had with organised labour last Friday.
