Explosion at Aboadze Thermal Plant: 100 megawatts power lost

An early morning explosion at the Aboadze Thermal Plant in the Shama District of the Western Region has resulted in the loss of 100 megawatts of power at the Takoradi Power Station.

According to reports reaching Graphic.com.gh, the explosion occured at the GRIDCO switch station at about 8:30 am.

There was, however, no fire, but personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service are on standby to avert the likelihood of any such occurrence.

The Aboadze Thermal Plant Three (T-3) which generates about 132 megawatts of power ti feed the national grid started full operations in a March 2013.

The plant was, however, shut down in June due to a fault in one of the four main units which resulted in a fire.
