Evans Odjer adjuged overall best candidate at ICAG

A professional accountant, Mr Evans Tettey Odjer, has been adjuged the overall best candidate at the 33rd Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG) graduation and admission ceremony in Accra.

For his prize, the 24-year-old Mr Odjer was given a laptop donated by the Founder and President of the EPP Group of Companies and Zenith University College, Mr Gibrine Adam, to enhance his work as an accountant.

This was in fulfilment of his pledge to the man who was among the youngest graduating candidates.

He also received two other awards in addition to the coveted prize.

‘Start from small beginning’

Mr Adam who is also a philanthropist commended Mr Odjer for being a hardworking and studious student.

He expressed concerns about the lack of commitment from a lot of the youth after completing school, noting that it was important to start from somewhere “to build experience, integrity and something to keep you going.”

“A lot of the youth do not want to start in their own small way — they want it big from the start, and it does not work that way.

The jobs are there, but people want bigger opportunities without starting from scratch,” he stated.

He also urged him to distinguish himself as one of the astute accountants in the country, and not let his family, ICAG and the nation down.

Mr Adam pledged to make the presentation to the overall best candidate an annual exercise.

Appreciation

A Council Member and the Director of Member Services of the ICAG, Mr Augustine Addo, expressed appreciation to Mr Adam for the kind gesture, saying the council of the ICAG was grateful for the collaboration.

For his part, Mr Odjer thanked Mr Adam for the gesture and said the award would spur him on and enhance his work as an accountant.
