Enough funding available for reopening of SHSs — GES

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it has enough funds set aside to ensure the smooth and timely reopening of senior high schools (SHSs).

It said, for instance, that the GH¢69,394 funding needed for third-year SHS students was disbursed on August 26, 2019, the same day the students resumed school.

A statement signed by the Head of the Public Relations Unit of the GES, Ms Cassandra Twum Ampofo, therefore, asked the management of second cycle schools to rest assured that everything was under control.

CHASS request

The statement said a letter announcing the disbursement of the amount covering third-year students was copied to the President of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) and expressed surprise, therefore, of a news item making the rounds and inferring that CHASS was asking for reopening of schools to be postponed with the explanation that money had not been released to them.

GES baffled

“Management’s concern is why CHASS or any head of a senior high school opted to go to the press instead of talking to the management of GES if they had issues with the money released.”

“Management of GES wishes to assure the general public that monies to start the new academic year have been released to all schools and that the schools remain open for all Form Three students to resume academic work as originally announced,” the statement said.

It advised CHASS to use the appropriate procedures to seek answers to issues that it might have and not rush to the media, since the media could not resolve the issues, if there were any.
